STATUS
Permitting Must Be Shorter, Simpler, and Predictable
#WeStorix STATUS: 8th October 2025 @ 8:00 Am
WeStorix submitted Feedback on the European Grids Package Consultation in response to the European Commission’s call for evidence on the upcoming European Grids Package (initiative 14672):
Permitting Must Be Shorter, Simpler, and Predictable
Permitting remains a key bottleneck, varying widely in cost, complexity, and timing across Member States. These delays block both scalability and investor confidence. Accelerated permitting is a shared pillar of the EU Grid Action Plan and the Affordable Energy Action Plan; common benchmarks will reduce uncertainty and cost.
WeStorix recommends:
- Set EU-wide targets: maximum 6 months for permitting of projects under 150 MW and maximum 12 months for those above
- Apply permit-by-notification or silent approval procedures for standardised storage systems
- Establish a central EU framework for permit fee ceilings and streamlined digital permitting systems
